Things I learned:

You cannot make french toast using hotdog buns!

French fries that are supposed to be kept frozen but were not, can be eaten... No ketchup, use cocktil souce.

When the cabin is cold and your cold; eat your one pot meal while holding the hot pot next to your shirt. The food warms the inside and the pot warms the outside. Note: Must wrap HOT pot in heavy dish towel or you'll get burned.

If you forget to put beer in the icebox for happy hour. It's ok. Some days the boat is so cold no one will know but you.

Now for the trip.

Departed Reedville and anchored in Bells Cr., off Indian Cr. While waiting for my friends Don and Betty to arrive (They're traveling on their 38' trawler from Solomons.)a surprise arrived in the creek. It was Tom VandenBerg's (I worked for Tom [CAPT USN]at NAVAIR) brother George. George and his wife Mary sail an Island Packet 38. I met them three years ago and George showed me their WIFI setup. Thanks to George I've been wireless and mobile for three years.

Don and Betty arrived shortly. We've been friends since the late 70s when we joined the United States Sail and Power Squadrons (USPS), Northern Virginia (NVPS) Chapter.

Nov. 5, Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club

Met Ron Sowers for lunch in Kilmarnock. In 1976, when I joined NVPS, Ron was Commander of the Squadron.
Ron gave me a converter box so now, when I have 110v, I have TV.

Ron is the slim guy in the photo.

Nov 6. High wind predicted - and we had 30kts. My long time friends Gale and Evelyn Alls (we also met in NVPS around 1978). Gale and Evelyn were spending the weekend at their cottage/home on Windmill Pt. We had dinner at the Indian Cr Y&CC. Picture next posting.

PS: Had my frist haircut-told him to cut it short --no pictures for a few weeks.

Nov. 8 Motored to Norfolk, anchored at Hospital Point.

Pictures taken from Hampton to Hospital Point.

Container Ships. The cranes are awesome.

If you look closely, that's a Red Bell on my PORT side. Yea, I'm out of the channel. But that is a big boy coming. Good friend Jim Huber once told me, stay "just" outside of the channel and the ships should miss you.

Hotel at Old Point Comfort. Fort Monroe to right but not in the picture.

Entering Norfolk by Hampton, motoring into a light breeze of 3 or 4 kts. Usually going 6kts, but with a 2 KNOT current GPS shows 8.1kts.

LOON anchored at Hospital Pt.

Now a BIG SURPRISE. I'm anchored, checking the engine and I hear chain very close. Well you always see who the hell is anchoring on me. It was Bob and Chel, friends from Solomons on their Shannon 37. They were returning to Solomons after spending 4 weeks sailing around Eastern NC. I hadn't seen them for three or more years. Well, Bob launched his dinghy and 3 liters later its been fun. If your keeping up, these are the fifth friends I've met since Solomons.

Bob and Ben having a frosty adult beverage! LOON in background.

Don and Betty anchored at Hospital Pt.

Next, it's through the Dismal Swamp to Elizabeth City.
